Eileen’s Review: Winner by Raquel Welch, Shaded Golden Wheat (SS8/25)

The name says it all, this wig is truly a “Winner”! It comes as no surprise that this is one of Raquel Welch’s best sellers. A fun modern pixie that will look great on almost every face shape.

If you are looking for an “out of the box” shake and go wig, you have found it in Winner. I wear this wig very often and I have not touched a comb to it yet, I run my fingers through it and head out the door.

I love the shade SS14/88 Shaded Golden Wheat, this is a medium honey blonde with soft gold blonde highlights and medium roots; I prefer wigs that have rooting, they look so natural.

This shade is comparable to Jon Renau’s famous 12FS8, also known as Shaded Praline, again one of my favorite shades. The rooting is so well done on these Raquel Welch wigs; they aren’t too long adding to the natural look.

The cap construction on winner is very basic with open wefting and no lace front. I like the basic cap construction, it is lightweight, cool and the no lace front keeps the cost down.

Winner has a front of 2.75”, Crown 3”, sides 2.25”, back 2.25” and a nape of 1.75”, making this a true pixie! The short bangs are adorable, you can wear them straight down or mess them up and wear them to the side; wearing winner messy is when it looks its best!

There is some permatease in this wig but if you have read any of my previous reviews you know that I am a huge fan of permatease; I’m a southern girl and we like our big hair, although I don’t find there to be too much permatease in Winner, you need some in this wig to give it volume on the top.

There is lots of texture in Winner, that is one of the things I love the most about this wig. I can use some styling cream and really bring out the texture or smooth it down as well.

There is good side coverage with cute little sideburns that can be worn toward the face or behind the ears.

Just because this is a pixie doesn’t mean there are no styling options available, you can do a lot with this wig, it can look sophisticated for the office or spike it up and wear it for a night out.

I keep a drawer full of fun hair accessories, its easy to change the look of a wig with just a headband or clip.

The back of winner is sleek and close to the neck. As with most wigs this length there is not much movement; Winner however does have enough hair that when the wind blows you don’t see the wefts.

Winner would be a perfect wig for someone who is new to wigs or if you just want to try a shorter style, you can’t go wrong with this one!

Thank you so much Kathleen! I really like Winner too, it is a good “go to” when I need to run errands, etc., I have even worn it to the gym! I have had my eye on the hand tied version as well, I’m sure it is wonderful! Thanks for commenting on my review, I always enjoy your reviews as well and can’t wait to see more!
