Home is a place to relax and unwind with friends, family or maybe all by yourself. And when you’re there, it should be more like your refuge from life’s chaos–not a source of even more stress and madness. If your home is anything but relaxing, it might be time for a major makeover.
Organizing your home the right way can make it even more serene. If you’re ready to take your home from turbulent to tranquil, here are a few simple ways to create a peaceful environment.
1. Maximize natural lighting
A great way to re-energize your home, and of course yourself, is to allow natural light inside your rooms. It will not only brighten up your home, but it can also fill it with positive energy. So, open the blinds and pull those curtains back during the day to allow natural light to come in.
2. Put calm colors on your walls
While bright and bold colors wall are fun, dramatic and exciting, keep in mind that they might not promote a sense of calm in your bedroom or any other area that you might want to use for relaxation. If you want to add tranquility to a room, try painting it with a soft, pastel shade that’s light and soothing. Warm shades aren’t necessarily out. They can actually help brighten up your room and impart a relaxing effect on your mind.
3. Add some greenery
Plants are one of the most soothing elements that you can add to your home. Adding a little bit of green to your rooms can actually help you breathe easier since indoor plants help purify the air. Reap the benefits while accessorizing your rooms in a unique way with plants such as aloe vera, Chinese evergreen and snake plants.
4. Get rid of clutter
Houses that have a lot of clutter may not be the perfect place to relax. That’s why it’s absolutely important to organize your things. Get rid of everything that you no longer need. Give away things that unnecessarily occupy space. This will create room for more important things. Once you get organized, always have a dedicated space for everything in your home. And try keeping items in their place so they’re easy to locate when you need them.
5. Diffuse a soothing aroma
Aromatherapy is a great way to promote a peaceful and calming environment in your home. Place scented candles in your rooms, especially during bedtime. Or simply add your favorite essential oil to a diffuser to add a subtle fragrance to your rooms. Your favorite scents can be comforting after a stressful day. So, breathe them in and let the stress melt away.
6. Play with the lighting
Lighting plays an important role in setting the mood. If a room’s lighting is too bright, it will make it hard for you to relax. When you’re selecting the lighting for a room, try a combination of dim lights and bright ones so you can switch between them depending on your mood. As for your bedroom, dim the lights closer to bedtime to help you fall asleep faster.
7. Keep cozy objects around
Having cozy objects in the rooms that are designated for relaxation can promote a sense of comfort. Incorporating throw pillows and comfy blankets in a room’s decor can help create a soothing effect. Place these objects near window seating or on the couch so you can feel calm and at ease anytime you want. Get comfortable with these items while sipping your coffee or encourage your friends to use them in order to make hangout times more peaceful and serene.
