The right hairpiece or wig can camouflage a bad hair day, make your face look younger, make you feel fabulous and help you pull your look together almost instantly. The key is to find a wig in a color that works with your skin tone, sets off your features, has a shape that best frames your face and a cut that suits your overall style.
If you’re new to wigs and you’re not quite sure where to start when it comes to shopping for one, keep the shape of your face in mind. Certain lengths and styles may be super flattering for one face shape, and a whomp, whomp for another. So this is one way to gauge if a style that you’ve been eyeing will work for you.
You’ve probably already heard about the six basic face shapes – round, diamond, square, heart, oval, and oblong – but the truth is that almost no one fits perfectly into any of these categories. When you’re ready to determine the shape of your own beautiful countenance, choose the shape that your face most closely resembles. In other words, think of the basic face shapes simply as a guideline. If you have a round or diamond-shaped face, the following tips will help you choose a wig you’ll love.
Round faces are as wide as they are long. They typically have soft, round cheeks and a decidedly youthful appeal with pronounced smiles. To maximize the best features and angles of a rounder face, opt for wigs with volume at the crown of your head and flattering layers around your face. Skip wigs with flat tops, the same length all around (likes bobs and pageboys), and curls that start in the middle of your face.
Diamond-shaped faces are symmetrical and easy to work with. Their wide cheeks and narrow chins make them especially appealing to the eye. Because of their ideal symmetry, women with diamond-shaped faces can indulge in just about any style of wig. If you’re lucky enough to have a face like a diamond, then sparkle, baby, sparkle. Throw caution to the wind and get whatever wig most appeals to your personal sense of style.
