Hi folks Kathleen here. I am discovering that mid-length wavy style wigs are becoming my comfort zone and my preferred color is a good Irish red. I thought it would be interesting to compare three wigs, all mid length, all wavy, and all in an Irish red. From the front all three look quite similar. Carlotta SF and Macie have similar bang lengths. Celebrity has the shortest bang length at 6.5”. Macie by TOB has the most layers which are indicated by her side measurements of 5”-8”. She also has the shortest front out of all three.
The back view illustrates where these three styles differ the most in curl/wave and length. Carlotta SF has the least amount of curl (FYI I have had a few Carlotta SFs and this one is my least curly but I still love her 😉) Macie has more curl and Celebrity has the tightest curl pattern. Carlotta SF is the shortest in the back with a nape measurement of 4”. I find this length doesn’t rub against collars and such as much. This helps her longevity because less friction means less tangling. Celebrity is the longest and is roughly the same length all the way around. Macie has a tapered or V shape to her back. Her ends are quite layered and textured this give her a visually lighter and less dense appearance than Celebrity.
The side view in image 3 illustrates the subtle nuances to their styles. Carlotta SF is longer in the front and very gradually gets shorter in the back. Macie is the opposite and has the most universally flattering shape to her. Celebrity is the same length all the way around.
Lets look at the weight of all three. Carlotta SF is the lightest at only 2.5oz followed by Macie at 3.21oz and the heaviest is Celebrity at 3.75oz. Carlotta SF has the lightest hair density and very little Permatease. Macie has natural hair density and a fair amount of volume. She has a mono top so she doesn’t have conventional Permatease (the base of the hair strands have a crinkled texture that helps give her volume) but does have Permatease at the nape. Celebrity has the most hair (still a realistic density) and less volume than Macie. Carlotta SF has the finest hair denier (how thick individual hairs are) followed closely by Macie and then Celebrity.
Carlotta SF has a beautiful lace front and mono part with open wefts. Interestingly even though she isn’t a mostly hand tied cap she has the most natural profile with less poof out of the three I’m comparing here. Image 5 illustrates this gorgeous color Paprika Mix. The front is where the majority of the highlighting is. A gorgeous light to medium ginger red gradually getting darker as you get around to the back. The back is a beautiful realistic brownish medium to dark auburn blend.
Carlotta SF is the most casual out of the three. She has a very realistic amount of hair and her profile looks very natural.
Macie like Carlotta SF has a beautiful lace front but unlike Carlotta SF which has a mono part Macie has a full mono top. Since she is mostly hand tied with a mono top you might expect her to be flat on top…not at all. She has a good amount of volume and can be fluffed up quite a bit.
The color Sunset Red is a warm Irish Red. She’s similar to Paprika Mix on Carlotta SF except the highlight colors are more evenly distributed, but overall they look very similar.
Macie is not a face flopper. Her bangs easily sweep off to the side and stay there.
Celebrity by Raquel Welch has been around for awhile and for good reason. Her cap construction is very similar to Macies by Tony of Beverly with a beautiful lace front, full mono top and a mostly hand tied cap. She has the most curl out of these three styles and has the shortest bang at 6.5” This color Glazed Fire is a beautiful Irish red. More vibrant and a tad cooler (reads more red vs orange) than Sunset Red by TOB & Paprika Mix by CW.
Out of these three style Celebrity has the more traditional cut and curl.
If you like looser more casual curls/waves, natural density but not at lot of volume, and your head is on the smaller side of average you would love Carlotta SF. If you love some volume, want the ability to part your hair anywhere you want, and love some big loose waves that you can dress down or dress up, you would love Macie. If you love the comfort of a hand tied cap with a good amount of hair for natural volume , love the beachy wave look but want more fully formed curls, than Celebrity is for you. All of these styles are beautiful and I highly recommend all three. Which one is my favorite you ask? Good question…my preference changes but at the moment I’m enjoying Carlotta SF and her casual simplicity. 🙋
