Believe it or not, wigs are more than just something you throw on every morning. They are a reflection of who you are, how you live and how you feel about yourself. It takes a certain kind of person to wear a wig- a person who’s bold, confident and unapologetically fearless. So if you’re not sure about wearing fun new styles, colors and even textures regularly or having locks that are worthy of the red carpet, then you definitely shouldn’t wear wigs.
You also shouldn’t wear wigs if…
You don’t like feeling confident and you don’t like switching up your style.
If you’re anything like me, you’re probably a person who loves to switch up her look all the time. But you may also have this nagging feeling of not wanting to take crazy risks or deal with the hassle. What if I told you that you could switch up your look whenever you wanted to and do so completely hassle-free? Well, that’s where wigs come in.
Having suffered from severe traction alopecia in the past, I remember being in such a negative mental space that I’d wear a headband everyday. I was too scared to experiment with wigs. However, I’ve now been wearing wigs for almost two years at this point, and it may sound dramatic, but I can’t tell you how much wigs have changed my life for the better. I have about four main wigs that I wear- a bob, an ombre wig, a long sultry wig and a curly wig. I love being able to customize my appearance depending on how I feel that day. Now, I’m not saying you need to have a huge wig collection, but I will say that wigs are for absolutely everyone unless you don’t like adventure, looking like a brand new woman and feeling as confident as ever!
You don’t want to save money and time.
As well as the obvious versatility, another one the greatest advantages to wearing wigs is the cost per wear! At first, a wig can seem a little pricey. However, when you take into account how many times you’ll end up wearing each wig, you’ll realise that you can’t afford to NOT buy one! Looking back, I spent ridiculous amounts of money and time in the hair salon trying to make my hair look a certain way which in turn hurt my pockets and damaged the hell out of my already-problematic hair. Now, I just put on a wig at the beginning of the day and take it off in the evening and let my scalp breathe. No more stressing over my hair or adjusting my headband for me!
You don’t love the feeling of luxurious locks.
Wearing a wig allows you to reclaim your power in the sense that you’re able regain the feeling of having luxurious tresses that you can style and primp just like you did before. The only difference is that with wigs you can go the extra mile! You have total control over how you want your hair to look.. For example, synthetic wigs are often already pre-styled so you can achieve your preferred look pretty much the second your wig is on your head! What’s not to love?
You feel like wigs are a badge of sadness/sickness.
I understand that if you’ve lost your hair due to an illness or sickness of any kind, you may feel that wearing a wig is a “badge of sickness.” But, girl, this could not be further from the truth! There are absolutely thousands of women across the world who wear wigs- from nurses, to teachers, to actresses and models. I’m pretty sure that at least 90% of my girlfriends wear wigs every now and again because it’s just super fun and an overall positive experience! Wigs are absolutely perfect for carefree, confident and fun-loving women and if you don’t want to be a part of the fun then you shouldn’t wear a wig!
Hopefully, you see what I’m trying to do here. I’m taking something that might be perceived to be a negative and flipping it into a positive. Wigs are an awesome way to express yourself and amp up your look. So don’t be afraid to mix things up. The sky’s the limit!
