Hi folks Kathleen here with my review of Zoey. My thoughts comparisons and why at the time of this review Zoey is not listed on CysterWigs website.
What is EnvyHair? It’s an even blend of 30% human hair and 70% heat friendly Synthetic hair. Zoey is a mid length effortless style that is 100% hand tied with a lace front and mono part. There is nothing that compares to a 100% hand tied cap. Zoey is no exception and is very comfortable to wear. I have been very curious about EnvyHair and wanted to see for myself how realistic this hair looked and felt and how she held up. Scrolling through WigCloseouts.com (CysterWigs clearance site) I saw Zoey was offered in Light Red/ Lighter Red. She was a great price( still the most money I ever spent on a wig aprox. $600) and I decided to purchase her.
I was so excited to get her. My first impressions were good… she wasn’t shiny…the color was a little darker that I expected but pretty. I couldn’t wait to try her on.
Her fibers were very silky. They felt like a cross between BelleTress and Raquel Welch HF fibers. Here’s the difference though, I kept running my hands through her while I was styling her and getting a feel for her. I can tell you that if I had done the same thing to my Crowd Pleaser by Raquel Welch
she would have started clumping and tangling like crazy. So far I was impressed with this EnvyHair.
I took out that zig zag part that hopefully manufacturers are moving away from. (I will explain the significance of that statement later in this article.) She has a beautiful parting area. Her knots are small and believable spaced.
Image 4 illustrates the beautiful part I achieved on Zoey and keep in mind that I am pickier than I would be on a less expensive wig.
I was happy with her light hair density. She had some body to her style which I also really liked. The highlights are very subtle. The color is a gorgeous medium red auburn. The movement of this Envy hair was very realistic.
The length is so pretty. She goes past my shoulders just a little. I love the long side sweeping bang. I think its very flattering and sexy. I know she can be heat styled as well which is a nice option.
I have a Hunter by Tony of Beverly in Sunset Red. She’s also 100% hand tied with a lace front and mono top. The main difference (aside from the cost, Hunter is under $400) she has a much shorter bang and she’s made with regular synthetic hair. She has more hair than Zoey as well. Style wise I prefer Zoey. Color wise I prefer Sunset Red. One important note Hunter is very roomy on my petite/ average head whereas Zoey fit me perfectly. I was thrilled with how well she fit me. 😉 One thing I found out right away is Hunter will tangle at the nape and ends. Pretty easily as most wigs this length will. I use Simply Styling on her. I like that it get tangles out but doesn’t leave a product buildup. On the other hand Zoey just didn’t seem to want to tangle. 😉
Image 8 shows these two beauties side by side. (I combed Hunters hair over her bangs and trimmed it a little to give her a more side swept look.)
Hunter is fuller and image 9 illustrates that difference well. I would say Hunter has average hair density compared to the light hair density of Zoey. I come from the super thin bio hair world so I feel more like me with Zoey on.
Now a little back story on Zoey and why you won’t find her at this time on CysterWigs website. I was going to return her when I first received her. I had a couple of concerns. She had very thin areas of hair in a couple of places especially at the crown.Too thin in my opinion and her lace front was void of hair at the temples to the point where I felt it would be hard to style her to hide it. For the kind of money I spent I expected much better quality. Btw I purchased the $20 return insurance because if I didn’t love her I was going to return her. Money well spent especially on such an expensive purchase. This option gave me peace of mind to try Zoey in the first place. I didn’t think I would want to return her over quality issues. This is before I re parted her or styled her (I was careful not to void my ability to return her at this point)
I emailed Heather over my concerns. Heathers response is why I admire her so much and why I am a loyal customer and why I’m so proud to work for CysterWigs. I believe in her mission statement. 😉 To be on the safe side she was going to pull Zoey from the site. She didn’t even hesitate. In other words her integrity and concern over her clients came before her profits. She is now in the process of testing Zoey to determine if this is a continuing quality issue.
Remember I said earlier I would explain my comment about manufacturers zig zag parts on wigs? I was prepared to return Zoey until I decided to check the part area…I pushed the hair aside to get a better look at it( being careful not to disturb the zig zag part 😉) and then I turned the wig upside down and looked through the mono top against the light coming from a window. Hmmm there were a couple of very sparse areas on the cap but the whole mono top looked very nice from what I could tell. Well my stubborn streak kicked in and I re parted Zoey..It looked amazing and now of course I was keeping her… it’s how I roll. 😂
Heather mentioned in one of her recent videos that manufacturers are getting away from those silly looking zig zag parts. I hope so because honestly if I had not re parted Zoey I would have returned her. I my opinion there would be a lot less returns if manufacturers gave their wigs nice normal parts. Right now it’s a catch twenty two. It’s hard to see what a wig looks like unless you part her and if you part her you void return policies..ugh 😫 I’ve had only one wig that came to me with a beautiful pristine part already in place and that was my beautiful Mia by TressAllure in Sunset Glow. Bravo TressAllure! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Image 11 is the main reason I was going to return Zoey. Her lace front is simply void of hair at the temples especially on the side I’m showing you. I honestly was sick over it because Zoey was so pretty in so many other ways. Hunters lace front is impeccable and what I expected from Zoey. To repeat myself… if I had not parted her I would have returned her. Attention wig manufacturers: if you gave your wigs natural parts instead of zig zag ones you would have a lot less returns. Ok ok I’m off my soapbox now.😉
Here is Zoey on me (image 12) from a little distance. There are a few straggly hairs knotted at the temple but that’s it. Its a shame because this is the side you would want to put behind your ear..or style off your face. Now remember at this point I have decided to keep her. I am falling more in love as time goes by. I had to fix this.
My answer to this problem turns out to be quite an easy fix. I kept pulling these few hairs (illustrated in mage 13) down over the bare area (lace void of hair) and since this is a blend of human and HF fibers it didn’t take long before the warmth of my hands started straightening that hair so it covered the problem area. To make sure I took my Jon Renau steamer (it has a small tube nozzle to steam small areas) and I just zapped with steam this hair so it would lay flat against the lace. I haven’t found the need to but you could use a dab of ItStays at the temple and tap the hair onto the lace for extra security.
Image 14 illustrates Zoey after I decided to keep her and I was getting ready to go out to dinner. I have already steamed her hair over the temple void of hair and played around with parting options but so far I love the side part.
I especially love the swoop of the long side fringe and the way the front came already steamed off the face. Casual elegance at its finest.
The first day I received Zoey I went to dinner with my hubby and had no problem at all keeping the hair out of my mouth when eating. That is an important test in my book…lol. About half way through dinner he told me he had forgotten this wasn’t my real hair. That’s quite a testimony since he has seen a gazillion wigs on me at this point. 😂
Image 17 illustrates Zoey with wind blowing directly in my face (another crazy weather day here in Georgia) 😜 All kidding aside it’s a great way to show you how the fibers move on a wig. The side I steamed to cover the temple area stayed put and looks very natural. This lace front is really quite beautiful. I do hope Envy fixes the quality issues with Zoey.
I am going to do a wear test on her. How do these fibers wear over time? Is the hype of this EnvyHair blend worth the cost? I will say I wore Zoey a good 6 hours that first day including going out to dinner and still no tangling and very little clumping if at all. Granted that’s just my initial opinion. I am curious to see how she feels after a wash. I will post an update on her after I have tested her for awhile. Overall if the quality issues are fixed by Envy I think Zoey is a fabulous relaxed natural density mid length style that is universally flattering. So until next time enjoy Wig Lovers! 🙋
